Striving to combat loneliness and create connections

Hi! My name is Ellie Moss and I am a senior at Ardsley High School. I have been part of Girl Scout Troop 2987 for 13 years! I am excited to work towards my Gold Award and help our community.

Social isolation and loneliness are linked to adverse health consequences including depression, cognitive decline, poor cardiovascular function, and impaired immunity. I would like to help elderly combat these feelings of loneliness with my Girl Scout Gold Award project - Meals with Memories.

The idea is to help a older veteran or elderly community resident celebrate or remember a special time or moment in their lives by cooking them a favorite meal or a specific dish that has meaning for them from their past. They can provide a family recipe, or we can research and recreate a special meal that they love.

Meals will be delivered to the recipient and if possible we will try to eat some of the meals together!

The hope is that we will bring back wonderful memories of times gone by, reconnect participants with their history and create new memories with new friends across generations!
